  1. Ispell is an interactive spell checker that suggests "near misses" as
  2. replacements for unrecognized words.  System and user-maintained
  3. dictionaries can be used.

  5. Ispell is available via anonymous ftp from ftp.cs.ucla.edu in the directory
  6. /pub/ispell.

  8. Some people may notice that ispell 4 is not at this site---ispell 3 is.
  9. The version numbering for this program has been screwy---it doesn't mean
  10. that we're using an older version of ispell.  Ispell 3 and 4 were
  11. maintained in parallel, but version 3 is actually much more advanced.  We
  12. decided to switch to it.

  14. Eventually ispell 3 will support a GNU-style configuration script to make
  15. it a little easier to build.
